WPP advertising sales rise 4.5 percent in first five months

LONDON (AFP) — WPP, the British advertising and marketing group, has said that underlying advertising revenue increased by 4.5 percent during the first five months of 2006.

Including the effect of acquisitions made by WPP, sales climbed by 17 percent in the five months ending May, compared with the same period in 2005, the group said in a trading update.

"Geographically, on a constant currency basis, all regions, with the exception of the United Kingdom, showed double-digit revenue growth," WPP said.

On a constant currency basis, total revenues climbed by more than 13 percent.

Revenues, excluding currency fluctuations, climbed by almost 12 percent in the United States, by more than 11 percent in continental Europe, over 49 percent in Eastern Europe...
