Bush: 'No excuse' for terrorism leaks

SAINT LOUIS, United States (AFP) — US President George W. Bush said that there was "no excuse" for news accounts last week that gave details of a secret program to track and disrupt terrorism financing.

"It's tough enough to fight the terrorists, we shouldn't have to worry about news organizations revealing important information that makes it more difficult to protect our country," Bush said at a political fundraiser here.

The New York Times and several other major US dailies published information about the program last week, drawing charges of undermining the war on terrorism and even treason from Bush supporters, and a call from at least one Republican lawmaker for the Times to be prosecuted.

But the White House, and Bush himself, have carefully declined...
