Schulz returns to ring after seven-year absence

BERLIN (AFP) — German boxer Axel Schulz, who tried and failed three times to lift the world heavyweight title, will return to the ring, seven years after he retired, it was announced.

The 37-year-old will mark his return with a bout at Halle on November 25 against an opponent yet to be named.

"Axel expressely wants to face a fighter who is in the world top 100," said a statement by the promoters.

Between 1990 and 1999, Schulz fought 32 times with 26 wins, 11 of which came inside the distance.

He was beaten four times, three of those defeats coming in IBF world heavyweight title contests - in April 1995 against George Foreman, against Francois Botha in December 1995 and finally against Michael Moorer in June 1996.
