Ogilvy has point to prove at British Open
0 Comments | AFP, July, 2006
HOYLAKE, England (AFP) — Geoff Ogilvy is out to prove a point at this week's British Open - that his upset win in last month's US Open was no fluke.
The 29-year-old Australian was the prime beneficiary of an astounding double meltdown by Phil Mickelson and Colin Montgomerie on the 72nd and last hole at Winged Foot.
Safely in the clubhouse after grinding out a closing 72, Ogilvy watched in amazement as both men double-bogeyed the tough closing hole while needing just a par to beat his mark.
That left him clutching the first Major title of his career and catapulted him into the world top 10.
Yet his acheivement went largely unnoticed as all the attention focussed on how the big names had blown their chances.
Ogilvy though says he fully deserved...
