Armstrong watches as Landis rides back in yellow

ALPE D'HUEZ, France (AFP) — American Floyd Landis picked the best day on the Tour de France to show the now retired Lance Armstrong he was wrong to let him leave his old team.

CSC rider Frank Schleck of Luxembourg won the coveted 15th stage held over 187km between Gap and the summit finish of the Alpe d'Huez on Tuesday after outfoxing Italian Damiano Cunego in the final two kilometres.

Despite Schleck's feat on one of the race's legendary climbs, last won by Armstrong after a 15km time trial in 2004, it was Landis who emerged as the big winner on the day after he coolly reclaimed the yellow jersey.

Armstrong, who still part owns the Discovery Channel team, had turned up to watch the stage hoping to see one of his old teammates come to the fore.
