MONTEREY, United States (AFP) — Australian Chris Vermeulen captured his second pole position of the motorcycling Grand Prix season when he seized the top qualifying spot for the US Grand Prix at Laguna Seca.
The Rizla Suzuki rookie conquered scorching weather conditions to clock 1min 23.168secs on the 3.610km circuit, which is hosting the 11th stop in the series.
He edged American Colin Edwards, who was .153sec behind on a Yamaha.
American Kenny Roberts jnr, who dominated the first day of practice on Friday, was third-quickest, .252sec back on a KR211V.
Spanish Honda rider Dani Pedrosa was fourth fastest to head the second row, which was completed by Americans John Hopkins (Suzuki) and Nicky Hayden (Honda)
