Iran calls for international probe into 'Zionist crimes'

TEHRAN (AFP) — Iran has called for an international probe into "Zionist crimes against humanity" in Lebanon, which has been under Israeli attack for 25 days, the foreign ministry spokesman has said.
"Iran calls for the formation of an international investigation committee to probe the ongoing atrocities of the Zionist regime in Lebanon, and to prosecute and punish the ones responsible for these catastrophes," Hamid Reza Asefi was quoted as saying by the official IRNA news agency.
Israel launched a devastating offensive against Lebanon on July 12 following the capture of two Israeli soldiers by the Shiite Lebanese militia, Hezbollah.
Asefi also accused the UN Security Council of giving the green light to Israel.
