Phoenix police arrest two suspects in serial murders

LOS ANGELES (AFP) — Police in Phoenix, in the southwestern US state of Arizona, said they had arrested two men suspected of links to a series of attacks, mostly against pedestrians and cyclists, that have left six people dead and 17 wounded.

"We arrested two suspects we believe are responsible for these crimes," Phoenix police chief Jack Harris said at a news conference.

Harris said the arrests were made late Thursday after an intense investigation following up on information received from the public.

"The so-called Serial Shooter is believed to be responsible for killing six people and wounding 17, mostly pedestrians and bicyclists, since May 2005," a police spokesman told AFP.

The attacks occur mainly at night and without witnesses, he said....
