Shark takes another bite at PGA

WASHINGTON (AFP) — Greg Norman made his first competitive golf appearance of the year, firing four birdies against three bogeys for a one-under par 71 in the first round of the PGA International.

The 51-year-old Australian underwent surgery on his right knee last October and again in February but did not recover in time for July's British Open.

Norman has also struggled in his personal life. His wife Laura filed for divorce on June 26 after 25 years of marriage, a subject Norman would not discuss.

Norman, who spent 331 weeks atop the world rankings, decided to return at this event, where he is a friend of the event founder and where his last competitive PGA event came one year ago.
