Cech out to shrug injury off his shoulders

LONDON (AFP) — Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech said he was aiming to be back in training next week after enduring surgery on both shoulders which has left him unable to lift his arms up.

The Czech Republic goalkeeper went under the knife straight after his country's World Cup group stage exit to cure a long-standing problem which had forced him to take painkillers before games.

Carlo Cudicini is to deputise for the 24-year-old in the champions' English Premiership opener at home to Manchester City on Sunday.

But Cech is keen on returning to training and reclaiming his place between the posts at Stamford Bridge.
