Vaidisova latest seed to pull out of Montreal

MONTREAL (AFP) — Czech Nicole Vaidisova, the fifth seed, forfeited her third round match at the 1.34 million-dollar WTA hardcourt tournament complaining of a sore right shoulder.
Several minutes later, Serbia's Jelena Jankovic also forfeited her match against compatriot Ana Ivanovic.
"This morning I hit some balls and it still felt a little sore. The timing is bad with the US Open coming up," said Vaidisova, who withdrew hours before the scheduled start of the match rather than risk a serious injury before the last Grand Slam of the season.
Her withdrawal means Australian Nicole Pratt reached the quarter-finals by walkover.
Vaidisova, who was bothered earlier this season by tendinitis in the shoulder, had already withdrawn from doubles here.
