MEXICO CITY (AFP) — The three rescued Mexican fishermen who have arrived in the Marshall Islands after a harrowing nine months adrift in the Pacific are due to arrive in Mexico on Friday, the foreign ministry has announced.
It said Tuesday doctors believe the trio will be healthy enough to take their flights home, with stops in Honolulu and Los Angeles along the way, and will arrive in Mexico on August 25.
The ministry also thanked the owner and crew of the Taiwanese fishing boat that led the men to safety.
The fishermen returned to dry land earlier Tuesday. All three were smiling and relaxed in fresh clothes as they arrived in Majuro, the capital of the Marshall Islands, aboard the fishing boat that plucked them to safety two weeks ago.
