BRASILIA (AFP) — China's Hainan Airlines Co. has ordered 100 commercial aircraft from Brazil's Embraer in a deal worth 2.725 billion dollars, the Brazilian aviation giant said. The planes are 50 ERJ-145s, which seat 50 passengers, and will be made at Embraer's plant in Harbin, northeastern China; and 50 Embraer-190, to be built at the company's plant in Sao Jose Dos Campos, in Sao Paulo state, an Embraer spokesman said.

Deliveries were to start in 2007. The purchase contact was to be signed Wednesday at the Planalto presidential palace in Brasilia at a ceremony with Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and China's legislature speaker Wu Bangguo, Embraer added. Embraer launched its joint venture in Harbin in 2002. © 2006 AFP
