"Ghost tree" draws Malaysian crowds

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) — A tree, whose trunk shows what appears to be a scowling human face, has reportedly attracted thousands of curious Malaysians. Villagers have dubbed the betel nut tree a "ghost tree" with some claiming that the face sporting heavy brows and a wide nose changes every day, the New Straits Times said.

Villager Zainol Nayan said the curves of the face started forming on the tree in northern Penang state a month ago, but it only became distinct last Friday. "Since then, villagers have gathered around the tree to see for themselves and the news spread like wildfire, attracting outsiders," he was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
