European team dedicate win to Heather Clarke

STRAFFAN, Ireland (AFP) — Europe's victorious Ryder Cup team have dedicated their victory to Darren Clarke and the memory of his late wife Heather, who died last month. "Every single one of us have dedicated this to Heather and Darren, thank you very much," the European captain, Ian Woosnam, said at an emotional press conference after his side's 18.5-9.5 victory.

Clarke had made himself available to play in the match less than six weeks after his wife lost her long battle with breast cancer and he justified Woosnam's decision to pick him by winning all three matches he was involved in. Speaking for his team-mates, Ireland's Paul McGinley said: "She would be right in the middle all this if she were here, and Big D, you've been great this week and we are so proud of the way...
