Saudis plan security fence along border with Iraq

DUBAI (AFP) — Saudi Arabia plans to put up a fence along its border with Iraq as a security measure, a senior Saudi official was quoted as saying on the Arabic-language satellite channel Al-Arabiya. "Erecting a fence, either of barbed wire or with thermal cameras or other adequate measures to prevent infiltration" is currently being studied, the Saudi vice-minister of the interior, Ahmed bin Abdel Aziz, told the station.

"I can't go into detail... but this will not be a separating wall," Prince Ahmed said, because of "an agreement with the Iraqi interior minister for the protection of common borders. This will provide good security." Saudi Arabia, which does all it can to prevent cross-border infiltration of Islamist activists, has often cited threats to its security posed...
