BERLIN (AFP) — A single player or a syndicate has scooped Germany's biggest ever lottery jackpot of 37.6 million euros (47.4 million dollars), the organisers said. "If it is one player and not a syndicate, it would be the biggest single win in the history of the German lottery," said Horst Mentrup of Lotto GmbH, based in Potsdam near Berlin.

The winning ticket cost 9.50 euros and was bought in the western region of North Rhine-Westphalia, but the holder had not claimed their prize by Monday morning, two days after Saturday's draw. The lucky numbers were 28, 30, 31, 34, 41, 48 and the all-important bonus ball was four. Punters spent 148.3 million euros on tickets. © 2006 AFP
