Handsome Andy is Asian film-making laureate

BUSAN, South Korea (AFP) — Hong Kong heart-throb Andy Lau Tak-wah said he hoped to win more recognition as a producer after being named Asian Film-maker of the Year at the Busan International Film Festival. Lau, who has been greeted by screaming crowds here, was given the award after his continued support for Asia's struggling independent film scene through his company, Focus films.

"Before I took this trophy, people only remembered me as a very famous actor," he told a ceremony at Busan's plush Paradise Hotel. "But as from tonight, I hope you guys remember me as the producer, Andy Lau." The honour recognizes a 20-plus year career that has already taken in around 50 films and more than 300 other awards.
