Chinese FM and US Secretary of State talk on phone

BEIJING (AFP) — Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing had a phone discussion with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to exchange views on "issues of common concern," the Chinese government said. "Both sides exchanged views on China-US bilateral relations and issues of common concern," said a one-sentence statement on the foreign ministry's website, without making any reference to North Korea.

Rice visited Japan, South Korea, China and Russia last week for talks on implementing UN sanctions imposed on North Korea over its nuclear test earlier this month. After talks with Chinese officials in Beijing, Rice said China was committed to enforcing strong sanctions against its ally Pyongyang.
