MySpace Japan goes online in Softbank, News Corp venture

TOKYO (AFP) — MySpace has come to Japan as Softbank Corp and media mogul Rupert Murdoch's News Corp teamed up to launch a Japanese version of the wildly popular US networking website. The website -- http://jp.myspace.com -- went online as Softbank Corp president Masayoshi Son and Murdoch announced a 50-50 joint venture, MySpace Japan KK, with capital of 590 million yen (five million dollars).
Murdoch said his firm had chosen Softbank as its Japanese partner because of its strong track record of successfully adapting international Web brands such as Yahoo which it uses for its broadband Internet service.
