Teen prodigy Wie ready for another chance at PGA Sony Open

HONOLULU, United States (AFP) — Michelle Wie will make her seventh attempt to make her first cut against the top men at a US PGA Tour event when she starts for the fourth time at the Sony Open in Hawaii. Teen prodigy Wie has accepted a sponsor's exemption to compete in the January 11-14 event at Waialae Country Club near her home, the Honolulu Star-Bulletin newspaper reported.
Wie, 17, came within a stroke of making the cut at the Sony Open in 2004 at age 14. She has failed in two PGA bids at the John Deere Classic and another earlier this year at the 84 Lumber Classic. Wie will play against men next week at the Casio Open in Japan. She made the cut at the Asian Tour's SK Telecom Open last May.
