Sony's PlayStation 3 makes chaotic US debut

SAN FRANCISCO (AFP) — Violence marred the chaotic US launch of Sony's PlayStation 3, as hardcore game fans and eBay profiteers mobbed stores to grab scarce stocks of the must-have computer console. From New York to San Francisco, the long line of bleary-eyed customers who had been queuing night and day outside electronics stores finally got their hands on the PS3 at special midnight openings.
At least one man was shot in the PS3 frenzy, and thousands of box-fresh machines rapidly made their way onto Internet auction site eBay where prices rocketed into the thousands of dollars. Fausto Ponce, standing in line outside the flagship PlayStation store in San Francisco, was one of many planning to turn a quick profit after Sony made just 400,000 of the consoles available Friday....
