Ohio State beats Michigan in US college gridiron showdown

COLUMBUS, United States (AFP) — Troy Smith threw four touchdown passes and top-ranked Ohio State defeated second-ranked University of Michigan 42-39 in a battle of American football collegiate unbeatens. Before a record Ohio Stadium crowd of 105,708, the Buckeyes assured themselves of a berth in January's national championship game and captured the Big Ten conference title by downing their border-state arch rivals.

Brian Robiskie grabbed a 13-yard touchdown pass from Smith at the sideline just inside the end zone to give Ohio State a 42-31 lead with 5:38 remaining.
