Shell's Sakhalin-2 to face lawsuits in 2007

MOSCOW (AFP) — Russia will file lawsuits against the giant Sakhalin-2 energy project led by British-Dutch Shell in March 2007, crusading Russian environmental official Oleg Mitvol has said. After a presentation to the government, "we will set terms and conditions for signing contracts with legal firms, and by the beginning of March need to be ready to begin the legal process," said Mitvol, who heads environmental agency Rosprirodnadzor, RIA Novosti reported.

The Shell-led consortium that runs the oil and gas development may face lawsuits in the international arbitration court in Stockholm, as well as Britain, Belgium, the United States, Italy, Japan and Russia, Mitvol said.
