Poiree wins biathlon sprint

HOCHFILZEN, Austria (AFP) — France's Raphael Poiree gave warning that he is back to his best by winning the men's World Cup biathlon 10km sprint. The four-time overall World Cup winner has not won a world class event since December 2005. But he clocked 24min 34sec without any penalties for missed targets to come back from a seven-second deficit at 2.2km from the line to come in ahead of Germans Michael Rosch and Sven Fischer.

"I was very sick at the beginning of December, but I knew that I had the ability to do something," said Poiree, who has been using the rifle belonging to his wife, Norwegian biathlete Liv Grete Poiree, since she retired in the spring.
