Newcastle's Emre in racism probe

LONDON (AFP) — Newcastle midfielder Emre is at the centre of a racism investigation following his side's 3-0 Premier League defeat last weekend against Everton. Referee Dermot Gallagher, who took charge of the match at Goodison Park, did not hear comments allegedly made by the 26-year-old Turkey international to goalkeeper Tim Howard and defender Joleon Lescott.
However, he mentioned he had been informed of the claims in his report, which was received by the Football Association on Tuesday and the natioonal governing body are now set to pursue the matter. "We have received the referee's report and he mentions that an allegation was made, but he did not hear anything himself," said an FA spokesman. "We will be writing to Everton to request any further information with which they can provide us."
