NEW YORK (AFP) — Lindy Ruff and Randy Carlyle will coach the Eastern Conference and Western Conference, respectively, in the 2007 All-Star Game on January 24, the National Hockey League announced Thursday. The former NHL defencemen earned the honours as a result of leading their respective teams to the top points percentage in their conferences through games of January 5.

Ruff has the Buffalo Sabres atop the East with a .763 percentage (61 points in 40 games) as of Thursday. Carlyle's Anaheim Ducks are first in the West at .738 percent (62 in 42). Both teams are assured of leading their conferences following the conclusion of Friday's contests. Assistant coaches for the All-Star Game are still to be determined. © 2007 AFP
