Scottish FA reveal Rangers contact over Smith

GLASGOW (AFP) — Scottish Football Assocation chief executive David Taylor has revealed that Rangers have asked for permission to speak to Scotland coach Walter Smith about the vacant manager's job at Ibrox. Smith is the hot favourite to replace Paul Le Guen after the Frenchman resigned as Rangers boss on Thursday and Taylor admitted the Glasgow club had made contact with the Scottish FA.

Ibrox chairman David Murray wants Rangers old boys Smith and Ally McCoist to take charge of the struggling team, who suffered an embarrassing Scottish Cup defeat at Dunfermline on Sunday.
