Tottenham make offer for Benfica's Rocha

LISBON (AFP) — English Premiership club Tottenham have offered Benfica five million euros (6.5 million US dollars) for defender Ricardo Rocha, Portugal's radio Renascenca have reported, citing unnamed club sources. But Benfica issued a statement on its internet site saying it was not holding transfer talks with Tottenham or any other club regarding the 28-year-old player, as reported by Portugal's radio Renascenca, who is under contract with the Lisbon-based club until 2010.

Tottenham spokesman Peter Secchi refused Thursday to confirm or deny Portuguese media reports that said the English side was interested in Rocha. Rocha joined Benfica in the summer of 2002 after spending time at Portuguese sides FC Famalicao and SC Braga. He has scored three goals in 12 appearances for...
