American, Briton kidnapped in Nigeria after Filipinos

LAGOS (AFP) — Unidentified militants kidnapped an American and a Briton in Nigeria's oil capital Port Harcourt, while it emerged that up to 24 Filipinos have already been abducted, police and diplomats said. The pair "were abducted early this morning and taken to an unknown location," Rivers State police spokeswoman Barasua Ireju told AFP.

A US diplomat confirmed the nationalities of the two men seized and said US officials had spoken with them on the telephone. "At the last contact we had with them they were both in good health," she said. In Manila, Foreign Undersecretary Esteban Conejos said it appeared that on Saturday, gunmen in neighbouring Delta State abducted all 24 Filipinos crewing the Baco-Liner 2 cargo ship, not just the six previously announced.
