Storming Snedeker steals Tiger's thunder

LA JOLLA, United States (AFP) — Unheralded Brandt Snedeker's storming 61 stole the thunder from Tiger Woods' 2007 season debut at the 5.2 million-dollar Buick Invitational.

Snedeker, a 26-year-old graduate of the Nationwide Tour, started on the 10th tee of the 6,874-yard, par-72 North Course at Torrey Pines, the easier of the two layouts used in the first two rounds of the tournament.

He had six birdies and an eagle to get to eight-under through his first seven holes, and made the turn at nine-under after adding another birdie at the 520-yard par-five 18th.

After nabbing one more birdie at No. 1, Snedeker stayed steady until he put an exclamation point on his 11-under effort with a birdie at the par-five No. 9.
