Israel hails UN condemnation of Holocaust denial

JERUSALEM (AFP) — Israel said it was very pleased by a UN General Assembly resolution that unreservedly condemned any denial of the Holocaust.

"Israel is very pleased by the adoption of this resolution," foreign ministry spokesman Mark Regev told AFP.

He said the resolution showed that "a government which offers a platform and its patronage to those who deny the Shoah is rejected by the international community," a reference to Iran hosting a revisionist conference on the Holocaust last December.

In Friday's resolution, proposed by the United States and co-sponsored by more than 100 countries, the 192-member General Assembly "condemns without any reservation any denial of the Holocaust."
