Greek court postpones Kenteris, Thanou perjury trial

ATHENS (AFP) — An Athens court has postponed until September the perjury trial of Greek sprint stars Costas Kenteris and Katerina Thanou, stemming from a mysterious motorcycle accident they allegedly suffered on the eve of the Athens 2004 Olympics.

The athletes' case was moved to September 24 -- the next available date on log -- because the adjudication of other prior cases on Monday's agenda ran into overtime, said Thanou's lawyer Nikos Kollias.

"This is something that frequently occurs in Greek courts," he told reporters Monday.

Neither of the athletes was present in the court room.

The motorcycle accident allegedly suffered by Kenteris and Thanou is part of one of the biggest doping scandals of the Athens Olympics.
