My baby 'is not a prop,' says lesbian daughter of US vice president

WASHINGTON (AFP) — Having a baby to raise with her female partner was a personal and not a political move, Mary Cheney, a lesbian and a daughter of Vice President Dick Cheney, told US media.
"This is a baby," Cheney said at a forum sponsored by Glamour magazine on Wednesday. "This is a blessing from God. It is not a political statement. It is not a prop to be used in a debate by people on either side of an issue. It is my child."
Cheney, 37, announced in December that she was starting a family with her partner of 15 years. She has not discussed publicly how the child was conceived.
In an interview with celebrity magazine People, President George W. Bush said in December he was delighted to hear Mary Cheney was expecting a child.
