US Treasury's global troubleshooter resigns for family reasons

WASHINGTON (AFP) — The US Treasury's globe-trotting point man for international affairs, Tim Adams, said he was quitting after an exhausting tenure spent cajoling China and pushing for IMF reform.

In a resignation letter to President George W. Bush, Adams said his job, which sends him around the world for much of the year, was "simply incompatible" with his duties to his wife and three young children.

Adams, 45, said he was leaving his post as undersecretary for international affairs with sadness as "I refuse to give anything but my best as I endeavor to make a difference in public service."
