ARE, Sweden (AFP) — Olympic slalom champion Anja Paerson is hoping that rhythm and harmony will combine to give her the edge when she begins the world ski championships as an unlikely underdog.

The 25-year-old Olympic slalom champion is the face of Are's first hosting of the event in 53 years and is under huge pressure to produce the goods.

But after a season which has been compromised by the serious knee operation she underwent in the spring of 2006, the Swede is not at her usual best.

Paerson has virtually dropped out of contending the coveted World Cup crown. She sits seventh overall behind leader Renate Goetschl, and fourth in the downhill standings which the Austrian also leads.
