LONDON (AFP) — Frank Lampard maintained Chelsea's charge towards a third consecutive Premiership title as his goal secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Charlton.

The England midfielder struck his eighth goal in as many matches with a typically clinical long-range shot to slash Manchester United's lead at the top of the table to three points.

United have the chance to reclaim a six-point advantage in Sunday's trip to Tottenham Hotspur, but Sir Alex Ferguson will be disturbed at the champions' reinvigorated form and, even more, by the return of John Terry.

The Chelsea captain had not featured at all since mid-December due to a troublesome lower back injury, but the roar which greeted his introduction as a late substitute at the Valley might have been heard at...
