PEBBLE BEACH, California (AFP) — Phil Mickelson has shot a seven-under-par 65 to share the lead with two others after the first round of the 5.5 million PGA Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

Also at 65 are John Mallinger and Nick Watney. Jim Furyk, India's Arjun Atwal and early leader Jason Schultz were two strokes behind.

Three golf courses are being used in the pro-am format. Mickelson and Watney were at Poppy Hills and and Mallinger played Pebble Beach. Spyglass Hill is considered the hardest of the three.

Mickelson had the most exciting finish with an eagle on his final hole, a 555-yard par-5.

"After a little bit of a wait I was able to get a good drive," Mickelson said. "Hit a 4-iron to 18 feet and made the putt down the hill for eagle."
