PHILADELPHIA, United States (AFP) — Bernard Hopkins, the former middleweight boxing champion who retired eight months ago, will return to the ring July 21 to fight former junior middleweight champion Winky Wright.
The two US fighters will meet in a 170-pound bout, just above super middleweight level, at a site to be determined.
Hopkins, 42, called it quits after defeating Antonio Tarver last June in Atlantic City, New Jersey, while Wright, 35, is a strong middleweight after moving up from a division where he was once undisputed champion.
Hopkins is 47-4 with one draw and 32 knockouts while Wright is 51-3 with one drawn and 25 knockouts.
