'Alien' star Weaver reunites with Cameron for new sci-fi film

LOS ANGELES (AFP) — US actress Sigourney Weaver will appear in James Cameron's sci-fi film "Avatar," the director's first fiction film since his Oscar-winning blockbuster "Titanic," industry press reported.

The big-budget film "Avatar," due out in 2009, is set on a distant planet, where a group of humans face hostile extraterrestrials, according to movie industry bible Variety.

Weaver, 57, will play a space explorer in the film, whose production starts in April, Variety said.

Weaver and Cameron previously worked together on the sci-fi thriller "Aliens" (1986), the sequel to "Alien."
