LAS VEGAS, United States (AFP) — Phil Jackson, who has coached a record-tying nine National Basketball Association championship teams, was among 15 finalists revealed for induction to the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Los Angeles Lakers coach Jackson and the late Red Auerbach share the all-time NBA coaching titles mark. Jackson guided the Chicago Bulls to six titles in the 1990s and the Lakers to three in a row starting in 2001.
Each finalist will need 18 of 24 possible votes from the Honors Committee for induction into the Hall of Fame. Those to be inducted will be announced on April 2 in Atlanta on the day of this year's US collegiate championship game.
Enshrinement will be from September 6-8 at the Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts.
