Oscar-winning songwriter Ray Evans dies at 92

LOS ANGELES (AFP) — Ray Evans, a prolific songwriter who created lasting hits such as "Whatever Will Be, Will Be (Que Sera, Sera)" along with longtime collaborator Jay Livingston, has died at 92, a US paper reported.

Evans died of an apparent heart attack on Thursday at UCLA Medical Center, his lawyer, Frederick Nicholas, told The Los Angeles Times.

Evans and Livingston won Oscars for "Whatever Will Be, Will Be (Que Sera, Sera)" and two other songs: "Buttons and Bows" and "Mona Lisa."

The duo, among Hollywood's most successful music men, also netted four other Oscar nominations, for "The Cat and the Canary," from "Why Girls Leave Home" (1945); "Tammy," performed by Debbie Reynolds in "Tammy and the Bachelor" (1957); "Almost in Your Arms," from "Houseboat"...
