'Simple Life' star Nicole Richie denies drink-drive charge

LOS ANGELES (AFP) — Reality television star Nicole Richie pleaded not guilty to a charge of driving under the influence after she was stopped last year for going the wrong way down a freeway.
Richie, a star of the television show "The Simple Life" with pal Paris Hilton, did not appear for the hearing at Glendale Superior Court in Los Angeles. A further hearing was set for April 2.
The 25-year-old daughter of singer Lionel Richie was arrested on December 11 after she was spotted driving her black Mercedes Benz sport-utility vehicle the wrong way down a freeway.
She failed a road-side sobriety test and told officers she had taken a painkiller and smoked marijuana.
