Knicks guard out indefinitely with broken right ankle

NEW YORK (AFP) — New York Knicks standout guard Jamal Crawford is out indefinitely with a stress fracture in his right ankle, the National Basketball Association club announced here Tuesday.

Crawford, who scored 20 points and made a key late 3-pointer in a 99-93 victory Monday over Miami, had X-ray, MRI and CAT-scan exams Tuesday to learn the extent of the injury.

No timetable is set for Crawford's return nor is it known whether season-ending knee surgery would be required.

The injury is a major setback to the playoff chances for the Knicks, who at 26-32 trail Miami (27-29) by two games in the race for the final Eastern Conference playoff berth.

Crawford, 26, is averaging 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 58 games this season. The Knicks...
