Sonn remains as ICC president but succession race unresolved

CAPE TOWN (AFP) — The succession battle for the presidency of the International Cricket Council (ICC) remained unresolved Friday at the same time as current president Percy Sonn agreed to stay in the post for an extra year.

It was announced after an ICC board meeting in Cape Town, Sonn's home city, that a nominations committee was deadlocked on whether David Morgan of England or Sharad Pawar of India, should be the next president.

The decision was referred to a governance review committee for further discussion.

"There's no hurry, especially in view of the fact that I have agreed to stay on until 2009," said Sonn. "We will have a good look at the process again."
