Wizards defeat Warriors amid controversy

WASHINGTON (AFP) — Washington edged Golden State 107-106 here Sunday in a National Basketball Association contest that ended amid controversy over a technical foul that gave the Wizards the chance to claim the victory.

Golden State coach Don Nelson was slapped with a technical foul for arguing a last-second call, a decision that gave Washington's Gilbert Arenas an extra free throw that proved the difference for the Wizards.

"We have lost a lot of close games this season, but none like this one," Golden State guard Monta Ellis said.

The wild finish saddled the Warriors with their sixth straight defeat. They dropped to 0-4 on their six-game road trip and appear destined to miss the playoffs for the 13th straight year.
