US anti-doping pioneer Catlin to quit testing field: report

WASHINGTON (AFP) — Don Catlin, the US chemist whose research has helped uncover dope cheats and pioneered testing breakthroughs, has reportedly decided to leave testing after 25 years.

According to the Washington Post the 68-year-old scientist who heads UCLA's Olympic Analytical Laboratory plans on pursuing research after a quarter-century of keeping the anti-doping watchdogs in the fight against secret labs of dope cheats and scoundrels.

"My feelings are a bit sad but I'm really relieved and fairly optimistic," Catlin told the Post. "I have a lot I need to do and want to do. It's time for me to move on after 25 years."
