ST. LOUIS, United States (AFP) — The St. Louis Cardinals ace pitcher Chris Carpenter on Tuesday underwent successful arthroscopic surgery of his right elbow.

Carpenter had bone spurs removed by Dr. George Paletta at the Orthopedic Center of St. Louis.

Based on the initial success of the surgery, Carpenter should be able to begin physical therapy this week. No timetable has been set for his return.

Carpenter, 32, has been sidelined with arthritis in his elbow since April 9.Baseball-USA-Carpenter
