Bureaucrat arrested for leaking Canada's environment plan

OTTAWA (AFP) — Federal police arrested an Environment Canada employee Wednesday for leaking secret draft legislation to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the country, authorities said in a statement.

The bureaucrat was charged with breach of trust, but was not identified because the matter remains under investigation, Superintendent Stan Burke of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said in a statement.

"An employee who violates the terms of their workplace security clearance, including the release of secret documents, may be subjected to legal consequences, including criminal charges," he said.

On April 17, the RCMP received a complaint from Environment Canada's security section that a draft secret copy of its Eco-Action Plan had been released publicly....
