China cranks up pressure ahead of table tennis world championships

BEIJING (AFP) — China on Wednesday cranked up the pressure ahead of the world table tennis championships next week, warning it plans to bask in glory once again.

China has been the world's top breeding ground for table tennis talent for decades and head coach Liu Guoliang said another clean sweep in Zagreb is on the cards.

"Although no one has imposed any specific gold medal target on us, we are looking forward to more world championships glory," he told the China Daily.

"I don't want to see my players losing to foreign rivals.

"We have done a good job in preparing for the world championships, selecting the best players through three open trials and thoroughly studying potential title competitors."
